  • Tommy will be joining Grayson Capps, Corky Hughes and the band "Paw Paw's Medicine Cabinet" for some good fun!

The venue is as distinctive as the performers: The Frog Pond is an outdoor stage on Blue Moon Farm, a property owned by Cathe Steele, who formerly managed the music lineup at Pirates Cove in Josephine. Steele has modeled the Frog Pond house concerts series on the famed “Midnight Rambles” conducted by drummer Levon Helm. As she describes it, the core idea is to bring musicians and serious listeners together in an informal but respectful house concert setting on the farm where the focus is firmly on the music.
At Blue Moon Farm, patrons bring their own chairs and beverages and are encouraged to participate in a communal covered-dish dinner. Overnight camping is allowed for out of towners.

Founding members of Cowboy, Talton, Boyer and Thurman are powerhouses of Southern Rock and all amazing songwriters and performers in their own right.
Cowboys were put together in 1969 by Scott Boyer and Tommy Talton.
Cowboy was a country/southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida who released four albums through legendary Capricorn Records label in 1970´s. They are probably best remembered from the song “Please Be With Me” written by Boyer which Eric Clapton covered in his 461 Ocean Boulevard album

Tommy Talton was a founding member of Capricorn Records group Cowboy. While in Macon, GA through most of the 70s, Talton was a studio musician recording with artists such as Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Corky Lang (West, Bruce and Lang, Mountain), Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Clarence Carter, country legend Kitty Wells, Alex and Livingston Taylor, Arthur Conley of Sweet Soul Music fame, and more. He toured extensively throughout the U.S. with Cowboy and with the Gregg Allman Tour. Joining Tommy is Scott Boyer and NC Thurman

Scott Boyer is a prolific and amazing songwriter. Prior to his final work with The Allman Brothers, Duane Allman’s last studio sessions were for Cowboy’s album “5’ll Getcha Ten” at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, where he added the Dobro accompaniment to “Please Be with Me.” The incredible album was engineered and produced by famed producer Johnny Sandlin. Two takes of “Please Be With Me” were released, one appeared on the Cowboy’s “5’ll Getcha Ten” and the other later on the Duane Allman Anthology. The song was also later recorded by Eric Clapton in 1974’s “461 Ocean Boulevard”.

NC (Noble Clark) Thurman grew up in Pulaski Tennessee, where he started playing in bands back in the sixties. He plays keyboards, guitar, harmonica, writes and vocalizes. He has performed with such artists as Bettye Swann, The Forrester Sisters, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Hank Williams Jr, Gregg Allman, Jimmy Hall, Little Richard, Billy Dean, Percy Sledge, Donnie Fritts, Billy Swan, Christine Olhman, and Eddie Floyd to name a few.He has played on recording sessions with the likes of Roger Hawkins, David Hood, Kelvin Holly, Larry Byrom, Will McFarlane, Bob Wray, Russell Smith, Jack Pearson, Chuck Leavell, Tony Joe White, Butch Trucks, Robert Byrne and more.

  • City Winery in Nashville, great place to hear the music, hope to see you there!

During the early to mid-1970’s, The Southern Rock band, Cowboy became one of the genre’s hidden gems. Formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1969 by songwriters, Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer, they would eventually sign with the legendary Macon, GA based Capricorn Records during the label’s first inception and infamous  period in Southern Rock history. Along with Cowboy, those to record at Phil Walden’s Capricorn were: The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Elvin Bishop, Wet Willie, as well as others.

Music from Cowboy was: “Reach For The Sky” (1971), “5’ll Getcha Ten” (1971), “Boyer & Talton” (1975) and “Cowboy” (1977).  Two compilations were released- “Why Quit When You’re Losing” (1975) and later 1993’s “A Different Time: The Best of Cowboy (released on Polydor). The 1976 album “Happy to Be Alive” by Talton with Bill Stewart and Johnny Sandlin was, in all case and purposes, as much a Cowboy album as could be at the time.

As musicians associated with Capricorn Records, Boyer and Talton would also spend time playing with a who’s who of greats including The Allman Brothers, Gregg Allman (whom they backed up on his first solo national tour), Alex Taylor and Bonnie Bramlett. They would remain part of The Capricorn scene until its first demise in 1979.

  • Mercer University, NewTown Macon, and The Lofts at Capricorn will hold a groundbreaking for Mercer Music at Capricorn and The Lofts at Capricorn, followed by a special presentation and free outdoor concert by Cowboy / Scott Boyer & Tommy Talton with N.C. Thurman and Paul Hornsby.

Mercer University, NewTown Macon, Sierra Development, Southern Pine Plantations and Piedmont Construction announced last December a partnership to bring back to life the historic Capricorn Studio as part of the largest market-rate residential development in the history of downtown Macon.

Mercer Music at Capricorn will restore the historic Capricorn Recording Studio, which will include space designed to incubate young musicians and live performance/special event space.

The Lofts at Capricorn will envelop the Capricorn Studio building and occupy most of the block bounded by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Plum Street, Poplar Street and 5th Street. Totaling more than 190,000 square feet, the development will include 82 one-bedroom apartments and 55 two-bedrooms lofts and more than 15,000 square feet of new office and retail space.

This event, which is open to the public, will serve as a groundbreaking for both projects and will include a special presentation regarding fundraising for this venture. Following the ceremony, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a free lunchtime concert will be held outside the Capricorn Studio featuring Cowby / Scott Boyer & Tommy Talton with special guests N.C. Thurman and Paul Hornsby. Guests are invited to bring their own lunches, or lunches will be available for purchase onsite from H&H Soul Food.

    About High Cotton Music Hall:

We had a simple, yet locally unique idea:

To create a venue where talented musicians can perform for people who truly want to enjoy live music. We are an intimate listening room for the serious music lover.  With a team dedicated to providing the best experience for both the performers and the audience, we are a music venue for nationally touring artists as well as regional and local musicians.  Come out and enjoy the show, savor the warm, eclectic ambiance that only a 100-year-old room can provide, and be prepared to fall in love with High Cotton Music Hall!
